Matt Braynard, organizer of Saturday’s “Justice for D6” rally in Washington, DC, called on protesters on Capitol Hill to respect law enforcement.

“There are uniforms officers here who I demand you respect, you are kind to, you are respectful and you are obedient, ”Braynard told rally participants.

“They are there to protect us, and we rely on them to do it, and we know they will,” he said.

Authorities have stepped up the security presence ahead of Saturday’s rally, which is being held in support of some 570 people arrested in connection with the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

Saturday morning, Capitole Police swore Federal, state and local law enforcement officers acting as deputy Capitol Police officers specifically for the event. DC National Guardsmen were also allowed to help with Saturday’s event.

Only 700 people are expected at Saturday’s rally. On Saturday afternoon, several reporters said there appeared to be more police and media presence at the rally than there were protesters.

Braynard also called on the protesters to be kind to the media.

“There are also a lot of members of the media here, and I ask them the same. You see someone [who’s] a member of the media, be kind and respectful to them, ”Braynard said.
